ADZU Med Alumni stand out at Nat’l Forum on Public Health; win Best Poster award

Graduates of Class 2016 of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine made their presence felt with outstanding research studies at the Ideas Positive National Youth Forum on Public Health 2016 (IPNYFPH 2016) held August 12, 2016 at the Bayanihan Center in Mandaluyong City.

Dr. Jhufel L. Ferraren, who qualified for the oral presentation of researches, presented his study entitled, "The Effect of a 3-in-1 Antihypertensive Intervention Program on the level of treatment adherence among hypertensive residents in the municipality of Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur".

Dr. Yrl Phares Martin R. Agbayani won the Best Poster Exhibit award, with his winning piece on "Santitation practices and water quality of selected water refilling stations in providing safe drinking water supply in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay".

Other members of ADZU-SOM's batch 2016 who qualified for the poster presentation of their respective researches include: Dr. Zenyros Faith Antonio Sabellano, on "Trials of improved practices (TIPS) as an approach on the compliance to appropriate breastfeeding practices among mothers with infants less than 6 months old in baranggay Upper Salug Daku, Mahayag Zamboanga del Norte”; Dr. Golden I. Tamon, on "Development of an educational tool based on health belief model to prevent antibiotic self-medication in baranggay Upper Salug Daku, Municipality of Mahayag,Zamboanga del Sur”; Dr. Alyssa Mariz M. Montejo on "Factors affecting adherence to Rabies post-exposure prophylaxis: A prospective cohort study"; and Dr. Raizel Ann T. Esteron, on "The practices of rural physicians in the diagnosis and management of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 in Zamboanga Sibugay Province". Five of the ten slots allotted for poster presentation were garnered by the ADZU graduates.

IPNYFPH 2016 is the first and the largest gathering of young health leaders in the country that serves as venue to discuss pressing public health issues affecting society today. This event, an initiative of Unilab Foundation-Ideas Positive, was held in collaboration with 101 Health Research and Youth Reform Movement PH.
