This pre and post intervention study determined the effect of Community-based Ecological Solid Waste Management Program (CBESWMP) on the knowledge and practices on proper waste segregation, recycling, and composting among the residents of barangay Lukuan, Lake Wood, Zamboanga del Sur. The sampling design used was total count to select the 91 respondents for this study. The baseline knowledge and theoretical practices were evaluated using an 18-item questionnaire: ten items for knowledge and eight items for theoretical practices. Actual practices on proper segregation and composting were evaluated using observational checklists whereas a sales monitoring index card was used to evaluate recycling practices. Two post intervention assessments were done using the same questionnaire and checklists one month and two months after the intervention. Frequency and percentage were used to illustrate the improvement in knowledge and practices. McNemars test was used to analyse the respondents’ knowledge and practices before and after the intervention. The findings showed improvement in knowledge from pre-intervention to post-intervention 1 and 2 with a p-value of 0.000. The practices of the respondents regarding segregation, composting, and recycling also improved from pre-intervention to post-intervention 1 and 2 with a p-value of 0.000. This study concludes that Community-based Ecological Solid Waste Management Program has an effect in improving the knowledge and practices on proper waste segregation, recycling, and composting among the residents of barangay Lukuan, Lake Wood, Zamboanga del Sur. It is recommended that this study be replicated in other barangays in the municipality of Lake Wood, Zamboanga del Sur.
