This study aimed to determine the change in knowledge and practices among elementary school teachers in Municipality of Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur after exposure to a fire preparedness seminar. This is a one group pre and post interventional study involving a total of sixty participants from five different schools. A fire preparedness seminar was conducted by the researcher with the help of Bureau of Fire Protection in Pagadian City in five schools. Fire preparedness was measured through the participants’ knowledge on fire preparedness, fire safety precaution practices and fire drill performance using an exam questionnaire and observational checklists. Results showed statistically significant improvement of the fire preparedness knowledge immediately after and one month after the intervention both with the p-value of .000a. Moreover, there was also a statistically significant improvement of the fire drill performance of the participants immediately after and one month after the intervention both with the p-value of .000a. Although the overall fire safety practices of the participants did not improve as evidenced by the p-value .375, there was a statistically significant improvement one month after the intervention in the particular fire safety practice of teaching the students how to respond during fire drills. Hence, this study concludes that fire preparedness seminar is effective in increasing knowledge on fire preparedness, improving fire drill performance and improving the fire safety practice of teaching the students how to respond during fire drills.
