This research is a pre and post interventional study determining the effect of Bantay Presyon Program among the hypertensive residents of Barangay Lukuan, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur. This study involved individuals 41 hypertensive residents diagnosed by the researcher and has no history of taking any medications for hypertension. Respondents were obtained by purposive sampling. The intervention included health education thru lecture and pamphlet, with provision of accessible and available medications in their barangay as coordinated with the Municipal Health Officer. Knowledge, monthly blood pressure check-ups and result, and adherence to medication were evaluated every month for four consecutive months using the barangay health station records and hypertension program identification card. Paired t-test, frequency and percentage were used in interpreting the results. The results of the study showed that there is a significant increase in the knowledge of the respondents from mean score of 14.00 to 15.66 at the end of the evaluation with P-value of 0.001. This study also proved that health education with available and accessible medication improved monthly blood pressure monitoring from 61% to 71% at the end of the evaluation. The adherent respondents also increased from initial result of 5% to 54%. The respondents with controlled blood pressure improved from 29% to 68% after the intervention. In general, the results of the study showed that Bantay Presyon Program is an effective approach on the management of hypertension.
