Hypertension has been long been regarded as ‘Silent killer’ and has contributed burden for premature mortality and disability. The control of hypertension has been a challenge especially in the community where health system is weak. However, recent study shows that frequent blood pressure monitoring helps in the control and management of hypertension. The aim of the study is to compare the effectiveness of text messaging versus satellite BP monitoring station on the compliance to BP monitoring among hypertensive residents of selected barangays of Municipality of Lake Wood, Zamboanga del Sur. The study utilized a quasi-experimental research design with 102 respondents from Group A: Text Messaging Group while Group B, the Satellite B P Station Group with 94 respondents. For Text Messaging Group, daily text messages were sent to the respondents for 14 consecutive days then once a week thereafter. While in Group B, a BHW from each purok was trained on proper BP taking the Satellite BP Station where the respondents can submit themselves for blood pressure monitoring. The respondents’ frequency of blood pressure monitoring was evaluated based on the compliance to blood pressure monitoring schedule by the British Hypertension Society. Simple tabulation was done to compare the frequency and percentage of compliant respondents between the two groups while McNemar Test was utilized to determine the significant difference. The study concludes that there is no significant difference on the compliance to blood pressure monitoring between Text Messaging versus Satellite BP Station. However, in presence of a variable like the unavailability of medication, the compliance rate to blood pressure monitoring was significantly higher with Satellite BP monitoring station.
