LECTURE WITH PAMPHLET AS AN INTERVENTION ON THE ACCEPTANCE OF SPAY/NEUTER AMONG DOG OWNERS OF BARANGAY MOLOS, TAMPILISAN, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE

This study was done to determine the effect of lecture with pamphlet on the acceptance of spay/neuter program among dog owners of Barangay Molos, Municipality of Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte. Sixty-three dog owners were selected through purposive sampling technique and was exposed to a house-to-house lecture with pamphlet. Prior to the intervention, there were practices of neutering among dog owners at the barangay at 5 out of 63 (8%) respondents. After the intervention, a spay/neuter program was conducted to which respondents were given the chance to subject their pet dogs to spaying/neutering. A total of 12 out of 63 (19%) respondents brought in their dogs for spaying/neutering with a total of 8 male dogs neutered and 8 female dogs spayed during the one day program. A post intervention interview was conducted to determine reasons why the respondents were not able to bring their dog for spay and neuter. Out of 51 respondents that were not able to attend, only 46 was interviewed. It revealed that 18 (39%) are not able to transport their dogs from their homes to the venue, 10 (22%) were not interested in the program, 5 (11%) were undecided. Other reasons include respondents preferring to breed their dogs, not having the time due to work and forgetting the program’s schedule. This study concludes that lecture with pamphlet is an effective tool in improving practices of spay and neuter.
