This is a pre-test post-test quasi experimental study that determined the effect of video and corrective feedback versus video and small group discussion on the knowledge and skilsl of barangay health workers of the municipalities of Titay Zamboanga Sibugay and Tampilisan Zamboanga del Norte on self-breast examination. A total of 70 participants were recruited: 36 for the video and corrective feedback group and 34 for the video and small group discussion. A 10-item multiple choice questionnaire was used to measure knowledge, while a 12-item observational checklist was used to measure skills. For the video and CF group, an instructional video was shown followed by a return demonstration of the respondents and corrective feedback. Mean knowledge scores were analyzed through paired t-test which revealed that compared to pre-test scores there was a significant increase in post-tests 1, 2 and 3. However, comparison between post-intervention knowledge scores showed no significant difference between post-intervention 1 and 2, post-intervention 1 and 3, and post interventions 2 and 3. For the video and SGD, the same video was shown followed by a 45-minute small group discussion guided by a module. Paired t-test was used to analyze the mean knowledge scores which showed a significant difference between pre and post intervention 1, 2 and 3. However, comparison between the post-interventional scores showed that post-intervention 1 and 2 had no significant difference while post-intervention 1 and 3 and post-intervention 2 and 3 had a significant difference. The researcher therefore concluded that video and corrective feedback was effective in increasing BSE knowledge and skills until post-intervention 3. That video and SGD alone was effective in increasing knowledge and skills until post-intervention 2. However, the researcher cannot compare the two interventions at post-intervention 3 because of the possible effect of the review. Hence, it is recommended that both interventions may be used to teach BSE, furthermore, it is possible that further review can help in better retention.
