This was a pre and post interventional study which aims to determine the effectiveness of lecture with short film in increasing cervical cancer screening using Visual Inspection with 4% Acetic Acid (VIA) among school teachers in the Municipality of Tampilisan, Zamboanga Del Norte. A total of 60 respondents from four (4) schools in all educational levels were included in the study using purposive sampling design. Respondents completed a self-administered questionnaire. The intervention consisted of structured lecture with short film. Improvement was measured by the actual submission of the respondents to VIA test. Data analysis used was frequencies and percentages. Prior to intervention, the actual VIA screening of the respondents was zero. Immediately after the intervention, a total of 46 out of 60 respondents (76.7%) indicated their willingness to undergo the screening and set their appointments at least two weeks after. A total of 25 out of 60 (42%) appeared for their appointment and were screened. Reasons for non-participation in cervical screening were due to a busy schedule (36.7%), screening procedure will be uncomfortable (10%), preference for private clinics (5%) and perception that the test was unnecessary as she was asymptomatic (1.7%). The study concludes that Lecture with short film significantly increased the VIA screening rate among public school teachers. The study recommends that the intervention be replicated in other settings to promote awareness and increase screening rates for cervical cancer.
