Author: Santos, Gerard Francis D.
Date: July 2017

This cross-sectional analytical study aimed to determine the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS in Zamboanga City. The respondents were composed of 101 HIV antibody-seropositive individuals who were on highly active anti-retroviral treatment in the treatment hub of Zamboanga City Medical Center. The respondents were gathered through convenience sampling. The quality of life was assessed using the WHO disease specific instrument WHOQOL-HIV BREF. It was found that more than half (58%) of the respondents had a moderate quality of life. The mean scores of quality of life domains were highest in the physical domain, followed by the psychological domain, level of independence, and the environmental domain. The lowest quality of life mean scores were that of spirituality/religion and social relationship. Factors such as higher educational attainment, being married, and a high level of CD4 count were noted to have positive effects on the quality of life of patients living with HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, a strong positive correlation was found between CD4 count and QOL in all 6 domains.
