The increasing prevalence and association of DM and TB has become a public health concern worldwide. Determining the prevalence of DM among TB patients in general is imperative to grasp the extent of the problem in Zamboanga City, hence this study aimed to determine the prevalence of DM among PTB patients enrolled at selected TB-DOTS health centers in Zamboanga City. This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study, where patients who were diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis and enrolled at TB-DOTS program of the City Health Office from January to first week of May 2018, currently undergoing treatment, 18 years old and above were included in the study. Stratified Random Sampling was used to select respondents from 9 certified TB-DOTS health centers within the 7-kilometer from the Zamboanga City Proper. A total of 179 respondents participated with a response rate of 65.1%. Respondents were interviewed, had their anthropometric characteristics measured and also have undergone fasting blood glucose test. Results showed that the prevalence of DM among PTB patients was noted to be 22.9% (41) and 22.3% (40) for Impaired fasting glucose, while the rest have normal fasting blood sugar. The notable prevalence of known risk factors of diabetes among the respondents of this study are: physical inactivity (74.2%) and smoking history (59.0%). The prevalence of diabetes mellitus among tuberculosis patients of this study is higher compared to the general population recorded in 2017 which is only 0.1%. The high prevalence of diabetes mellitus among tuberculosis patients calls for an active intervention of the community to address this problem.
