This is a cross sectional descriptive study designed to determine the profile of e-cigarette smokers in Zamboanga city and their reasons to use e-cigarette. Two hundred fifty (250) respondents were recruited through snowballing where two hundred (200) were recruited from three vape bars in the city and fifty (50) were recruited from a facebook page. For data gathering a tool was formulated. The survey items in this tool were drawn from a focus group discussion (FGD) of vapers. This tool was pretested for validation. Data from these survey were processed using descriptive statistics. Of the 250 respondents recruited forty three percent (43%) were 17-20 years of age, ninety percent (90%) were male, forty one percent (41%) were of Islam religion, and forty four percent (44%) were Tausug. Sixty nine percent (69%) of the respondents were married, thirty eight percent (38%) were college graduate, seventy six percent (76%) were employed, thirty eight percent (38%) of respondents having monthly income between 15-30 thousand. Forty seven percent (47%) of the respondents were vaping for more than 2 years. Seventy four percent (74%) have vaping friends and twenty five percent (25%) have vaping family members. Forty three percent (43%) of the respondent were influenced to use e-cigarette by their vaping friends. The most commonly used e-juice for vaping was 3 mg nicotine containing e-juice. This study showed that thirty six percent (36%) of the respondents stopped smoking after initiating e-cigarette use. Sixty five percent (65%) of the respondentvaped because they want to quit smoking, while nineteen percent (19%) start vaping because they like the flavors. The other minor reasons to vape were: feeling vaping safer and healthier than cigarette smoking; feeling “cool†while vaping; vaping is more satisfying than cigarette smoking and peer pressure. This study concludes that e-cigarette is popular among young adults and commonly used as a means to quit smoking.
