Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 cases has been rapidly rising affecting communities locally and globally. It has been a major public health challenge and the chronic nature of diabetes underscores the importance of self-management education that promotes behavioural skills necessary to optimize quality of life. The main objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness and satisfaction of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) program for individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in Zamboanga City. This was done by identifying individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in five (5) selected barangay. Three questionnaires were given and blood extraction for fasting blood sugar (FBS) was done. Participants undergone a 4 week 1 hour Diabetes Self-Management Education Program using the Maine DSME Program which was held at Health centers once a week and was evaluated after the 4 week course. Repeat measure of fasting blood sugar (FBS) was also done and Satisfaction rate of the DSME program was evaluated by the participants. The results of the study showed that DSME program significantly improves knowledge among individuals with Type2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and their adherence to their prescribed medications by increasing their adherence to medium adherence and significant reduction of individuals with low adherence, however no improvement was seen in fasting blood glucose result. The conduct of the DSME program are acceptable among Type2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) participants.
