ASSESSMENT OF COVID-19-RELATED KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND PRACTICES (KAP) AMONG SECURITY GUARDS OF SELECTED ESTABLISHMENTS IN ZAMBOANGA CITY
Author: Edding, Al-Fahad J.
Date: July 2021

Work-related viral transmission is one of the major contributors to COVID-19 outbreaks. Assessing the COVID-19-relate knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of frontline workers concerning COVID-19 can help give insights on how this work-related transmission can be controlled. It can provide baseline information to aid in the program development for intervention at the level of frontline workers such as the security guards. Previous KAP studies were mainly focused on the healthcare workers; however, this study aimed to determine the COVID-19-related KAP of the non-healthcare workers such as the security guards. A convenience sampling method was used in this study, and a total of 385 security guards participated. A self-administered survey questionnaire was used to determine the KAP of these frontline workers. Their knowledge was assessed using 12-item questionnaire related to COVID-19. The security guards' average knowledge score was 10.4, and about 81.56 percent (314/385) were able to obtain a score above 10, representing an acceptable level of knowledge on COVID-19. The COVID-19-related attitudes were assessed using a 4-item question. Most of the security guards have positive attitudes towards COVID-19 as a preventable and controllable disease. The COVID-19-related practices were assessed using a 9-item questionnaire. The security guards' average practice score was 8.4 and about 96.4 percent (371/385) were able to obtain a score above 7, representing an acceptable level of good COVID-19-related practices. Based on the results, the security guards of the selected establishments have good COVID-19-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices.
