COVID-19 PREVENTION INFORMATION OF LOCAL LEADERS AMONG THE TOP BARANGAYS WITH THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF COVID-19 CASES IN ZAMBOANGA CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR

This research utilized a explorative descriptive study design that focused on the COVID-19 prevention information of local leaders. The study aimed to determine the COVID-19 prevention information as well as the preventive measures the local leaders practices. Top 3 Barangays with the highest number of COVID-19 cases where chosen as respondents. The local government unit of the barangay were observered for their preventive practices using an observational tool. Thereafter the barangay captain and kagawad for health were interviewed using an in-depth interview guide. Data analysis was done with the method of thematic analysis. The resultant themes include: (1) sources of information; (2) general understanding of COVID-19; (3) COVID-19 prevention; and (4) challenges. Preventive measures of local leaders include COVID-19 information on preventive measures of local leaders include hand hygiene, sanitation, PPEs, physical distancing, mask and its use, personal practices, eating habits, education, awareness of the programs, lockdown and social interaction. The COVID-19 information included sources of information, general understanding of COVID-19, and challenges faced by the local leaders. COVID-19 prevention practices observed among the local leaders include screening measures, hand hygiene, wearing of PPEs, environment sanitation, physical distancing, and environmental setting. Barangay Calarian prevention practices are moderately observed, Barangay Zone 1 fair, and in Barangay Tetuan moderately observed. In comparing the similarities of COVID-19 prevention information between WHO & CDC with the local leaders, most recommendations from the international health organizations we’re passed down to the local government unit. Therefore, the COVID-19 prevention information of the local leaders is similar with CDC & WHO. However, preventive practices should be strengthened in the workplace to continue the stop of COVID-19 spread.
