This is a pre and post interventional study that aimed to determine the effect of
training on the knowledge and skills of elementary school teachers on psychosocial
processing as first responders to children ages 6-12 years old as victims of disaster in
selected barangays in municipality of Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province. There
are a total of 40 participants. The study developed a questionnaire to determine the
knowledge and a checklist for the skills before and after the intervention. Results showed
that when compared, there was significant difference between the means scores of pre-intervention (9.35), post intervention 1 (18.37) with a significant p-value. However when
post intervention 1 was compared to post-intervention 2, there were no significant
increase in the mean scores. For the skills, Annova for repeated measures was used to
analyse the mean scores. Results revealed that there was an increase in mean scores
from pre-intervention (2.58) to post-intervention 1 (18.88) with a significant p-value.
However, when post-intervention 1 and post intervention 2 (20.88) were compared p-value was insignificant at (.252) level. The study concludes that training is an effective
intervention in the enhancement of the teacher’s knowledge and improvement of their
skills on Psychosocial Processing. Furthermore, study findings also revealed that the
intervention is also effective in the retention of knowledge and skills of elementary school
teachers.
