Author: Jeiti Anne P. Veloso
Date: April 2014

This study aimed to determine the effect of hypertension patrol on the compliance of the hypertensive residents on blood pressure monitoring and hataw exercise in Barangay Natan, Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province. A total of 63 respondents were selected through convenience sampling and were identified to have Stage 1 Hypertension based on the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee. This study is a quantitative type of research with a pre-post interventional design. Compliance was assessed through their attendance or number of visits made in a month in their respective BP stations. The respondents were instructed to visit their respective BP stations 3x a week for one month and attend the Hataw exercise 2x a week for one month. The respondent is considered compliant if he was able to visit the BP station 12 times in a month and non- compliant if less than 12 visits. For the Hataw exercise, they were evaluated also through their attendance. The respondent is considered compliant if they he was able to attend the Hataw8 times in a month, if less, they were non- compliant. Results for frequency of the compliant respondents on blood pressure monitoring and Hataw exercise showed that from Pre- intervention to post intervention 1, there was a significant increase in the number of compliant respondents. In the Pre-intervention to Post intervention 2, there was also a significant increase in the number of compliant respondents. However, in the Post intervention 1 to Post intervention 2, the results decrease although the decrease was not significant. Another way of interpreting the data is by obtaining the mean visit and attendance to blood pressure monitoring and hataw exercise, respectively. Based on the result of the mean visit on blood pressure monitoring, there was a significant increase with a p-value of .000 from the Pre-intervention to the Post intervention 1 and 2. From Post intervention 1 to Post intervention 2, there was a significant decrease with a p-value of .000 in the mean visit of the respondents. For the mean attendance on Hataw exercise, there was a significant increase with a p-value of .000 from the Pre-intervention to the Post intervention 1 and Post intervention 2. From Post intervention 1 to Post intervention 2, there was a minimal increase with a p-value of .949 which means that the increase was not significant.
