Filariasis is a parasitic infection caused by a worm, Wucheria Bancrofti, which is transmitted by mosquito vector. The World Health Organization has campaigned to eliminate this debilitating disease through a 5 year-annual mass drug administration of diethylcarbamazine citrate(DEC) and albendazole for 2 years old and above. In support of this, the Department of Health (DOH) has implemented guidelines to strengthen the campaign in endemic places in the Philippines. In the year 2009, a resident of Resthouse, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur was confirmed to have filariasis. Two years later, another resident from Balintawak still in Aurora province was diagnosed with the same infection. Mass drug administration on prophylaxis medicine was implemented after the first case but there was low compliance rate turnover from the residents. With these information gathered, the researcher has come up with this study to determine what method is effective to increase compliance.
