In the Philippines, annual mass treatment of Praziquantel is one of the
five-pronged key interventions of Schistosomiasis Control Program of DOH to
combat against Schistosomiasis. However, despite the effort of the
Schistosomiasis Control Committee of municipality of Aurora to conduct the
annual mass treatment in its endemic barangays, its overall compliance rate still
did not achieve the goal of DOH which is eighty five (85%) coverage of mass
treatment, majority of the people still hesitate to comply with the annual mass
treatment. In line with this, the researcher saw the need to educate the people
about Schistosomiasis and disseminate the information about Schistosomiasis
Control Program of DOH. This research aims to determine if film viewing with
interactive discussion on Schistosomiasis with pre-treatment snacks has an effect
in the compliance to mass treatment among non-compliant residents of endemic
barangays of the municipality of Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur. The researcher
included three (3) endemic barangays of municipality of Aurora, Zamboanga del
Sur which are endemic for Schistosomiasis. There were a total of one hundred six
(106) respondents. One hundred three (103) out of one hundred six (106)
respondents took the medication after intervention and three percent (3%) did not
comply, achieving a ninety seven percent (97%) accomplishment rate. This shows
that film viewing with interactive discussion on Schistosomiasis with pre-treatment snack before mass treatment has an effect on the compliance of non-compliant residents of endemic barangays in municipality of Aurora, Zamboanga
del sur.
