This pre and post interventional study was conducted to determine the
effectiveness of a comic book series on the knowledge, attitude, and practices among the
3rd and 4th year students of Gaulan National High School. A total of 46 students were
included in the study. A self-administered questionnaire was given to the respondents
during the pre-intervention and post-intervention. The intervention phase was a four (4)
part comic book series given to students with one (1) week interval for a month. ANOVA
for repeated measures, Paired T-test were used to analyze the data and determine the
significant changes in knowledge and attitude between the pre and post intervention
findings. The results showed no increase in the overall knowledge scores from pre-test to
post-test I with a p-value of 0.724 and from pre-test to post-test II with a p-value of
0.212; however, for the overall attitude response, there was a positive response from pre-test to post-test I with a p-value of 0.046 and from pre-test to post-test II with a p-value of
0.001. The practices were analyzed using frequency statistics. The results showed no
change on the number of current drinkers of alcoholic beverages from pre-test to post-test I and from pre-test to post-test II. The study showed that the comic book series didn’t
improve the knowledge and practices of the respondents; however, it improved their
attitude regarding alcoholic beverage consumption from pre-test to post-test I and from
pre-test to post-test II.
