Reducing the diarrheal disease burden will require providing access to safe water and sanitation services to every Filipino. Utilizing the easiest and comprehensible approach would be necessary in promoting the use of water disinfection especially in places where poor access to safe drinking water exist. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of water disinfection promotion on the utilization rates of boiling and solar disinfection among households of Barangay Upper Salug Daku, Mahayag, Zamboanga Del Sur. A pre and post-interventional design was utilized and a convenience sampling was used to select respondents of the study. A total of 120 participants or 50.85% of the total households in the barangay were included in the study. During the course of the study, two (2) respondents dropped out. Water disinfection promotion was conducted through lecture demonstration, installation of posters near water sources promoting the use of water disinfection and weekly trial of each method. Pre-intervention questionnaires were given prior to intervention and post-intervention questionnaires were also given 1, 2 months post-intervention. Frequency and percentages analysis was used to measure the utilization rate of households practicing boiling and SoDis. Prior to intervention, 76 (63.33%) of the 120 respondents did water disinfection, which increases to 118 (98.33%) on post intervention I and 100% on post intervention II. Among the 120 respondents, boiling was chosen as the easiest method to perform and the least time consuming method. The results of this study implies that the promotional activities done to promote the use of water disinfection had a positive effect on increasing the utilization rate of water disinfection methods among the 120 respondents or 50.85% of the total households in Barangay Upper Salug Daku, Mahayag, Zamboanga Del Sur
