This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the CHAST (Children’s Hygiene and Sanitation Training) methodology for lower primary school children on the hand washing and toilet utilization practices of the grade 1, 2 and 3 students of Barangay Kaangayan Elementary School. It is composed of five steps consisting of different participatory tools to instill the direct links between personal hygiene and good health. This study had 98 respondents and purposive sampling design was done. One pre evaluation and three post evaluations utilizing pocket charts were conducted one week, one month and 2 months after the intervention to evaluate the hand washing and toilet utilization practices of the students. The results of this study were analyzed separately per grade level per practices using descriptive statistics. All grade levels exceeded the three quarters (75%) required criteria of the CHAST approach for hand washing and toilet utilization practices. The results also showed that the methodology is most effective among the grade 1 students attributed to 34 percent increase in figures in the hand washing practices. There was an evident improvement in the hand washing and toilet utilization practices on all grade levels. Considering all the data gathered in this study, it is concluded that CHAST is an effective strategy in improving the hand washing and toilet utilization practices of the grade 1, 2 and 3 students.
