In certain communities, like Barangays Goaw and Canaan, drinking water is limited. Therefore, there is a need to practice proper handling of water from source, to storage, to point of use. Household Water Treatment or Safe Storage (HWTS) lecture-demonstration is an intervention which aims to increase the number of households who practice proper water handling through low-risk water source, safe water storage and proper water treatment methods. Quasi-experimental, pre- and post-test study design with multistage sampling was used in the study. Random sampling through fishbowl method was used to identify the households included in the study, while the selection of representative from each identified household was done through convenience sampling. Sixty-four (64) households were included in the intervention. Mostly were aged 41-50 years old, female, either a farmer or a housekeeper, attained grade school level, and with a monthly income of Php 1,000.00 and below. The number of households with low risk water sources increased significantly from 75% to 92% then 98%, 2 weeks and 4 weeks, respectively, after the intervention. The number of households who practice safe water storage increased from 48% to 61% and 59% 2 weeks and 4 weeks, respectively, after the intervention, but the changes were not significant. The number of households who practice proper water treatment methods increased significantly from 9% to 61% and 77% 2 weeks and 4 weeks, respectively, after the intervention. Therefore, Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage lecture and demonstration can improve the number of households with low-risk water sources, and using proper water treatment methods, but failed to improve the number of households with safe water storage.
