This was a quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the influence of Intensive Healthcare Waste Management Training Model in improving the waste management practices of healthcare workers among selected level 1 government hospitals in Zamboanga del Norte. There were four level 1 government hospitals divided into two groups of which 24 respondents were included. One group received IHWM Training (group 2) while the other group (group1) did not. The respondents for the study were nurses, medical technologist, radiology technician, and sanitary workers. Data gathering was done through researcher-administered questionnaire and observational checklist. Frequencies and percentages were used to describe the healthcare waste management practices of the healthcare workers’ pre-intervention and post-interventions. All of the respondents of group one (100%) exhibited good practices on waste management all throughout the research study. On the other hand, group two showed an increase in segregation practices from 75% of the respondents on pre-intervention to 100% on post-intervention, color-coding scheme of trash bins from 58% of the respondents on pre-intervention to 100% on post-intervention, and utilization of colored bin liners from 67% of the respondents on pre-intervention to 100% on post-intervention. The study concludes that there was an increase in the number of respondents with good practices among healthcare workers in group two however, the influence of the Intensive Healthcare Waste Management Training Model cannot be evaluated due to incomparability of the two groups and the high drop-out rate of respondents.
