The objective of the study is to determine the effects of lecture with flipcharts regarding dental health on the knowledge and practices of grade 6 students in selected primary schools in Mahayag Zamboanga del Sur. This study is a quasi-experimental interventional design which included grade 6 students from Daniel C. Mantos (experimental group) and Kaangayan (control group) Elementary School. A pre and post-intervention questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge before and after the intervention. Practices on dental hygiene were evaluated by the municipal dentist using a dental health record checklist during pre and post intervention. Post Hoc Test was used to analyze knowledge on pre and post intervention. McNemar’s Test was used to analyze the practices of the students before and after the intervention. There were 122 respondents in the study. The knowledge of experimental group was improved compared to the control group with a p value of (0.000) from pre-intervention to post-intervention III. Improvement of practices was also noted in both groups. Improvement of practices in the experimental group was significant between pre-intervention and post- intervention III with a p value of the following: oral debris (0.000), properly cleaned tongue (0.000), and dental caries (0.070). Improvement of practices in the control group was also significant between pre-intervention and post-intervention III with a p-value of the following oral debris (0.002), properly cleaned tongue (0.023) and dental caries (0.070). Thus, the study concludes that lecture with flipchart regarding dental health significant improved knowledge and practices except the dental status in terms of presence of gingivitis and dental caries of grade 6 students compared to standard education.
