This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a Dengue Video Animation on the knowledge and practices of elementary students regarding dengue prevention and control on selected public primary schools in Zamboanga City. It was to determine whether the said intervention is an effective tool in improving the knowledge and practices of elementary students regarding dengue prevention and control. There were a total of 1, 921 respondents from grade 1 to 6 who were evaluated throughout the study. A pre and post interventional study was utilized. A self-administered questionnaire was used to evaluate the knowledge and practices of the respondents; also an observational checklist was employed for further evaluation of practices. The gathered date has been analyzed using Paired T-test. Result revealed that the mean knowledge score significantly increased from 4.824 during the pre-intervention to 5.576 after the intervention. On the other hand, practices scores show no significant increase in scores from 11.819 during the pre-intervention to 11.824 after the intervention. Actual practices observation also revealed no significant change. Hence, it was found out that the Dengue Video Animation was effective in improving the knowledge but not the practices of the respondents. It was recommended to have a similar study to be conducted with the same method of presenting; however it should be supplemented with proper health teaching and with series of presentations to be done.
