AWARENESS, SATISFACTION, UTILIZATION AND FACTORS AFFECTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MALARIA CONTRO PROGRAM IN BONGAO, TAWI-TAWI

Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the awareness, utilization, satisfaction and factors that affect the implementation of the Malaria Control Programs (MCP) in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. The MCP of the government and NGO in the municipality aims to decrease malaria morbidity by 70 percent and mortality by 80 percent annually. The program includes early detection and treatment, vector control and health promotions. An in-depth interview was conducted among the different stakeholders of the municipality to determine the factors that affect the implementation of the programs, while survey questionnaire was administered to 630 randomly chosen local residents to determine their awareness, utilization and satisfaction on the different components of the MCP by the community. Result showed a high awareness of the respondents on malaria and malaria control measures implemented in the community. At the same time, there was also a high utilization and satisfaction on the different components of the MCP among the residents. Identified factors that affect the implementation of the MCP as perceived by various stakeholders include lack of funding, geographical characteristic of the municipality, lack of community involvement on planning and implementation, insufficient health facility and health workers and lack of program monitoring.
